Soundproof Glass Solutions for Singapore Homes & Offices
Singapore’s urban soundscape – expressways, MRT lines, construction, and even neighbour noise – can be relentless. If you’re tired of traffic rumble or the clatter of the coffee shop downstairs, soundproof glass could be the solution you never knew you needed. At AM Glass Solution SG, we specialise in acoustic glass doors, windows, and partitions that dramatically cut noise without sacrificing natural light.
How Soundproof Glass Works
Soundproof or acoustic glass reduces noise transmission through two principles:
Mass – Thicker, multi‑layer constructions block more sound energy.
Damping – A special PVB (polyvinyl butyral) interlayer between glass sheets dissipates sound vibrations.
When sound waves hit standard single‑pane glass, the glass vibrates and transfers noise almost unchanged. Acoustic laminated glass, on the other hand, acts like a shock absorber, converting sound energy into negligible heat. The result? A noticeable drop in decibels.
Understanding STC Ratings
Sound Transmission Class (STC) measures how well a material blocks sound. The higher the STC, the better the noise reduction.
Single‑pane float glass (4mm): STC 28 – traffic conversations are easily heard.
Standard laminated glass (6.38mm): STC 35 – speech is muffled but still audible.
Acoustic laminated glass (8.8mm – special PVB): STC 39‑42 – loud speech becomes unintelligible, traffic hum disappears.
Double‑glazed acoustic unit (12.8mm overall): STC 45+ – ideal for recording studios or MRT‑facing units.
Our team measures your noise problem and recommends the right STC glass for your budget and expectations.
Best Applications for Soundproof Glass
For Homes
Bedrooms facing expressways or main roads – Enjoy uninterrupted sleep even during peak hour.
Home offices – Eliminate barking dogs or children’s play noise while you work.
Balcony enclosures – Enjoy the view without the roar of traffic.
HDB windows near MRT tracks – Special laminated glass reduces low‑frequency train noise significantly.
For Offices
Meeting rooms – Confidential discussions stay private; hallway noise stays out.
Manager cabins – Create a quiet workspace without feeling boxed in.
Call centres – Reduce background noise for clearer conversations.
Co‑working space partitions – Maintain an open feel while reducing cross‑talk.
Soundproof Glass vs. Other Soundproofing Methods
Method | Effectiveness | Natural Light | Space Loss | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Acoustic glass windows/doors | Very high | Full | None | Medium‑high |
Secondary glazing (add‑on panel) | High | Full | Minimal | Medium |
Heavy curtains/blinds | Low‑medium | Reduced | None | Low |
Wall partitions (drywall) | High | Blocked | Significant | Medium |
Glass wins when you want light + quiet. It’s the only solution that preserves an open, airy atmosphere while cutting decibel levels.

Case Study: Peace in Punggol
A homeowner in Punggol struggled with relentless LRT noise at all hours. We replaced their bedroom casement windows with 12mm acoustic laminated glass and added a secondary sliding panel. The result? The indoor STC jumped from 28 to 44 – the difference between a blaring horn and a whisper. The client called it the best investment they’d ever made.
