Why Frameless Shower Screens Are a Must-Have in Modern Bathrooms
Gone are the days of chunky, framed shower enclosures that collect mould and block light. Frameless shower screens have taken over Singapore’s home renovation scene – and for good reason. At AM Glass Solution SG, we install hundreds of frameless shower screens each year, transforming ordinary bathrooms into sleek, hotel‑inspired retreats.
What Makes a Shower Screen Frameless?
A frameless shower screen uses thick tempered glass (usually 10mm or 12mm) with minimal hardware – typically just hinges, clamps, and a small support bar. There’s no bulky aluminium frame around the edges, giving a clean, seamless look.
Top Benefits of Frameless Shower Screens
Aesthetic appeal – They make a bathroom look larger, brighter, and more luxurious.
Easy cleaning – No metal tracks or rubber seals to trap soap scum and mildew.
Customisation – We fabricate them to fit any irregular wall or sloped ceiling.
Durability – Thick tempered glass is tough and resists daily wear.
Light flow – Unobstructed glass lets light travel through, even in windowless bathrooms.
Increased property value – A modern bathroom is a strong selling point for HDB resale or rental.
Types of Frameless Shower Screens We Offer
Single Panel Swing Door – One large glass panel hinged to the wall, swinging outwards and inwards.
Fixed Panel with Swing Door – A stationary glass panel combined with a hinged door, ideal for wider openings.
Sliding Frameless Doors – Two or more panels sliding on a minimalist top‑hung track, perfect for small bathrooms.
Walk‑In Glass Panel – A single fixed panel creating an open wet‑room style, with no door at all.
Corner Shower Enclosure – Two glass panels meeting at a corner, typically with a swing door.
We help you choose the best configuration based on your bathroom size and layout.
Nano‑Coating: The Secret to Spotless Shower Glass
Even frameless glass can develop water spots and soap build‑up over time. We highly recommend our nano‑coating treatment. This invisible layer repels water, causing it to bead up and roll off, taking dirt with it. Benefits include:
Reduces cleaning frequency by up to 70%.
Prevents limescale and mould adhesion.
Extends the life of the glass by reducing etching.
Keeps the “new glass” shine for years.
How We Install Your Frameless Shower Screen
Consultation & measurement – We visit your bathroom, discuss your vision, and take laser‑accurate dimensions.
Glass fabrication – 10mm or 12mm tempered glass is cut, polished, and drilled for hinges.
Waterproofing prep – We ensure the wall and floor are level; any necessary tiling or waterproofing is coordinated.
Hardware mounting – Solid stainless‑steel hinges and clamps are fixed to the wall.
Glass panel fitting – Panels are carefully attached, aligned, and sealed with anti‑fungal silicone.
Water test – We run the shower to verify zero leaks and smooth door operation.
Frameless vs Semi‑Frameless vs Framed: A Quick Comparison
Feature | Frameless | Semi‑Frameless | Framed |
|---|---|---|---|
Metal framing | Minimal (hinges only) | Some edging | Full metal frame |
Look | Premium, minimal | Modern but visible frame | Functional, dated |
Cleaning effort | Very easy | Moderate | High (tracks trap grime) |
Cost | Higher | Medium | Lower |
Thickness required | 10‑12mm | 8‑10mm | 5‑6mm |
For a master bathroom or en‑suite, frameless is the undisputed winner.
Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Shower Screen Crystal Clear
After each shower, use a squeegee to wipe down the glass – this alone prevents 80% of spots.
Clean weekly with a mix of white vinegar and water, or a non‑abrasive glass cleaner.
Avoid harsh scrubbers; use a soft sponge.
Reapply nano‑coating every 2‑3 years for maximum protection.
Inspect silicone seals annually; replace if peeling or mouldy.
